What is a Christian Boarding School?

Christian boarding schools offer the opportunity for your child, adolescent or young adult to both attend school and live there full time.

Christian boarding schools (CBS) are private schools which means they are not state funded. Parents are typically responsible to pay for their child’s tuition and room and board. Some schools are non-profit. Often, schools provide scholarships or offer financial aid. Some schools accept donations and are able to reduce fees from these.

CBS typically help you work with your insurance company to get coverage for some of the cost of medical or mental health care at the school. Keep in mind, however, that not all the fees will be covered.

Most CBS (but not all) are a type of therapeutic boarding school that helps children with mental health, addictions or behavioral issues. House of Hope Florida in Orlando

House of Hope is a nonprofit, nondenominational, Christ-centered residential program for troubled teens between the ages of 13 and 17. They provide training, resources and solutions to equip parents to help teens and families overcome many of today’s destructive issues, such as cutting, abuse, addictions, social media, depression, and much more.

The program includes counseling services, structured education, discipleship, and life skills training as well as parenting classes. Parent(s) must be willing to participate by attending weekly parenting classes and individual prayer ministry.

The length of stay varies and is dependent upon the severity of the issues a teen is dealing with. The average length of stay can be anywhere from 10-16 months.

The average monthly cost per teen is $4800.00, which includes housing, education, and counseling. House of Hope uses a sliding scale based on your income.

Mount Dora Children’s Home in Mount Dora

Mount Dora Children’s Home is a Christ-centered residential school for boys and girls between the ages of six and 18 years old and their families in need. They are affiliated with but not owned by the Churches of Christ, and are licensed by the Florida Association of Christian Child Caring Agencies.

They offer support for children and families through two distinct programs: Residential Services for Children and the Single Parent Program. Single parents and their children in their single parent program are provided with housing and other financial support while in the program. Residents live in one of the two-bedroom apartments or in single-family homes on campus.

No child is refused admission to the Residential Services for Children program because of the inability of the parents or guardians to pay the full cost of care. Payment is based upon a sliding fee scale. Financial support comes from local congregations of the Churches of Christ throughout Florida, the Southeast, and beyond, as well as individual donors, grants, and other fundraising activities.

Treasure Coast Troubled Boys Boarding School, Vero Beach

Treasure Coast Boys Academy and Ranch serves troubled teenage boys ages 12 through 17 at their Christian therapeutic boarding school on a 30-acre campus. During the 15-month program, boys are given responsibility for work projects and chapel services on campus. One of the academy’s goals is to see boys mature in their faith in Christ. The school provides worship, chapel services, Bible studies, discipleship, retreats, and mission trip opportunities.

The school and program provide individual, group, and family counseling. They put great importance on mentorship, providing the boys with positive male role models during their enrollment.

A critical aspect of the program is the mandatory participation of parents. Parents are expected to participate in family therapy sessions, program curriculum, and attend several parent weekends.

The typical length of stay is 15 months. Students with lower maturity levels may require a longer length of stay.

Gateway Academy is a military-like year round boarding school for boys ages 12-17 that teaches discipline and builds character, confidence, respect, and leadership.
