Is Treatment Effective for Children with Sexual Problems?
Yes, treatment outcomes have proven successful for children with inappropriate sexual behavior.
Children with delinquent sexualized behavior who receive treatment have a much higher success rate than adults who sexually abuse others. The goal is to find a treatment program that is appropriate to the needs of the child and to start treatment as soon as possible. Providing safe supervision during treatment is also critical to overall success rates.
While residential treatment for sexual behavior is available in some states, most children can receive treatment in an outpatient setting and continue to remain in the home as long as proper supervision is provided during treatment.
Someone is not considered a “sex offender” unless they are an adult who has been charged with a sexual crime.
Click here for more information on types of treatment programs available for problematic sexualized behavior in children.
Note that this type of treatment is specific to children who commit inappropriate sexual behaviors and is not meant to be treatment for children who are victims of abuse. To find treatment for a child who has been sexually abused, contact RAINN to find a program in your area.

Thanks for also talking about the age brackets that I could be expecting when it comes to youth treatment programs. I’m interested in looking for a good one soon because my daughter recently got into some trouble at school due to some unsavory activities that she’s been doing with some of her classmates. I think going to therapy would be the best option in getting her life back on track.
